Sick Day

So, home sick again today.... NOT happy about it.... I'm already behind in school and can't afford to get more behind... and I'm so tired of feeling sick. I'm doing a lot better than I was my sophomore and junior years, but I have regressed slightly since the school year began. I'm so agitated and exhausted that I was too unmotivated to even take my daily walk, which I usually enjoy. I got about 100 yards from my house and turned back around and went home.

Some days are harder than others... and I'm just stressed out right now with makeup work and worries about the uncertainty of the future in terms of school and my health... I have to keep reminding myself that I have incredible support in my life, and people who will guide me in determining and doing whatever I may need to do.

Today, I have filled my day with rest, and had delicious mango for a snack.

...I ate the whole thing.

Note the large ball of paper towel... it was a messy endeavor.

I also had an afternoon snack of sweet potato. There was some leftover plain mashed sweet potato in the fridge, and I sprinkled some cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg to enhance the flavor a bit. It was so good! It's strange how in certain circumstances, the most random foods can be so incredibly appetizing.

I also found this on the counter...

a tea ball!

I think my neighbor brought it over for me... the other night I was at her house and saw this on the counter. It totally blew my mind. I had never seen one before! And I LOVE loose leaf tea... I have a bunch from Christmas. Kendra bought me several flavors and a loose leaf tea maker. I am so excited to use the tea ball now! It's so convenient... I can't believe I am just now learning of them!

Also, in between naps, I turned on the TV and watched the Dr. Oz show because... he had both Deepak Chopra and Andrew Weil as guests!!! Weil and Chopra are two of my idols... being ill has caused me to develop a great interest in alternative methods of healing. If I pursue some sort of medical work later on in my life, I hope to bring together aspects of both Western medicine and more holistic medicine and healing.

From left to right: Deepak Chopra, Dr. Oz, and Andrew Weil

This transitions well into why I love Andrew Weil so much... (I love Deepak Chopra, too, but don't know as much about him as I do Weil). Weil is generally thought of as an alternative healer while in reality he is an MD, and a cardiologist by practice. However, alternative medicine, holistic methods and philosophy drive much of his work in the medical world. By successfully bringing together Western and alternative medicine, he has vast knowledge of the human body, mind and emotionality, and their interconnectedness.

Watching the show was so interesting... I told my friend it was like a triple threat! haha. I think she thinks I'm a little wacko....thankfully we're essentially non-biological sisters, so s'all good. I actually took a few notes while watching it (NERD), though in my hazy sick state they were a little all over the place. Luckily, I found a link to all the information from the show. You should definitely read about it here; they went over different ways to deal with stress, indigestion, headaches, and lots of other things through vitamins, foods, meditation and breathing exercises, etc.

Well, I'm off to rest again... maybe later I will force myself into a real walk. I know I need it, even more so if I don't want it. IMMA TRUMP THIS SLUMP.

Time to curl up with the dog and listen to Bon Iver....

A plus tard.
