This is a poem I wrote this past winter during a particularly difficult time in the process of my illness (I tend to write poetry when I am not in the happiest of temperaments...makes for a bit of a depressing collection).
It was written without title as I was unable to think of a name for it and have since been uninspired... perhaps something will come to me in the future. Or perhaps it will remain as so.
In any case, here it is...
In any case, here it is...
through the frame of frost on my window
I stare into
the lack of color outside
painted only by shadows
and bootprints
where bare feet would freeze
within this cold room
my body lies swaddled
eyes, heavy even with sleep,
blinded by this
blaring white
as colorless as the stagnancy
I cannot seem to escape
my heart wills me to rise and move
but how?
when this flesh lies weary
amidst these stifling walls
and I have no melody
only snow
in my dreams
as I sleep,
I may go
but this body is weary of rest
and these eyes are weary of sleep
and these feet want nothing but to
leap from their slippers
and feel grass against
their skin
as I run
and run
and run
until I am ready to come home again
through the frame of frost on my window
I stare into the snow
and am reminded of all I cannot change
how hard it is
some days
to rest my heart.
I stare into
the lack of color outside
painted only by shadows
and bootprints
where bare feet would freeze
within this cold room
my body lies swaddled
eyes, heavy even with sleep,
blinded by this
blaring white
as colorless as the stagnancy
I cannot seem to escape
my heart wills me to rise and move
but how?
when this flesh lies weary
amidst these stifling walls
and I have no melody
only snow
in my dreams
as I sleep,
I may go
but this body is weary of rest
and these eyes are weary of sleep
and these feet want nothing but to
leap from their slippers
and feel grass against
their skin
as I run
and run
and run
until I am ready to come home again
through the frame of frost on my window
I stare into the snow
and am reminded of all I cannot change
how hard it is
some days
to rest my heart.
