~ From Me To You ~

Little Girl,
you don’t know me
but I’ve been thinking, lately,
of you
with your sweet smile
and  eyes bright
but lacking periphery.

Little Girl,
you will learn to turn around
and see the full sphere of this life
when its motion leaves you dizzy
and weak on the ground.

your limbs are so sure now
but soon will tremble with uncertainty
heed my words:
as you are swept into the whirl and blur
seek out what is clear

Little Girl,
your skin will stretch and crack
as you learn to feel
emotions of the faces magnetized
to your refrigerator door

it hurts to know rage
to know sorrow
to know alone
but shake their hands
with dignity
remember - they will come
and they will go.

Little Girl
you think your life a symphony in G major
written by you
already on paper
but prepare to watch it catch in the path of our spinning world
and tear

Little Girl,
so much will come your way,
will change,
will grasp you by the neck and shake,
but even with shaking body and quaking limbs
don’t forget what you know and love

write down your heart
not in symphonies, but slowly:
note by note,
pulse by pulse,
breath by breath.

Little Girl,
you don’t know me
but these words I say to you:

don’t lose your melody.

breathe and hold on.
